Bouygues Speed Test

This diagnostic utility validates the throughput of your Bouygues Telecom connection. To interpret your results, you must identify your hardware generation. While the entry-level Bbox Fit and mid-range Bbox Must are standard Gigabit devices, the high-end Bbox Ultym utilizes XGS-PON technology to deliver up to 8 Gbps in specific areas. However, utilizing these speeds requires specialized network cards that most consumer laptops do not possess.

A frequent source of frustration for Bbox users is the "Unified SSID." By default, the Bbox merges 2.4GHz and 5GHz (and 6GHz on Ultym) into a single name. If your high-speed laptop accidentally latches onto the 2.4GHz band, your speed test will cap at ~80 Mbps, making it look like your Fiber line is broken.

Understanding Your Speed Metrics

When analyzing your connection integrity, focus on these three performance vectors:

Download Throughput:
Bbox Must (1 Gbps): Wired speeds should hit ~940 Mbps.
Bbox Ultym (2 Gbps / 8 Gbps): On the 8 Gbps offer, you must use the 10G Ethernet Port (Silver/Grey connector). If you plug into a standard yellow port, you are physically capped at 1 Gbps.
xDSL (ADSL/VDSL): Distance dependent. VDSL2 usually tops out at 50-80 Mbps near the exchange.

Upload Throughput: Bouygues Fiber is Asymmetrical, but generous.
Ultym: Up to 900 Mbps Upload.
Must: Up to 700 Mbps Upload.
If your upload is drastically lower (e.g., 10 Mbps) on a fiber line, check your Ethernet cable quality (Cat5 vs Cat6).

Latency (Ping): Bouygues has excellent peering in France. Expect 3ms to 10ms to Paris servers. If you see high ping, check if the Bbox TV decoder is downloading a large 4K update in the background.

What Results Should You Expect?

The "Wi-Fi 6E" Factor

Your Bbox generation dictates your testing method. Benchmarks include:

Bbox Ultym (Wi-Fi 6E): The vertical "Tower" design. If you have a Wi-Fi 6E compatible phone (e.g., Pixel 7/8, iPhone 15 Pro), you can achieve ~1.5 Gbps wirelessly on the 6GHz band.

Bbox Must (Wi-Fi 6): The flat black box. Capable of ~700-800 Mbps wirelessly close to the unit.

Bbox Fit (Wi-Fi 5): White, small box. Maximum wireless speed is ~400 Mbps. This box has no TV decoder, so it reserves no bandwidth for video.

Why Is Your Bouygues Connection Slow?

Before calling 1064, verify these common configuration faults:

ONT vs. SFP: Older installs use a separate white box (ONT) on the wall. Newer Bbox units have the fiber plugged directly into the router via a small module (SFP). If the SFP module is hot to the touch, ensure the router has ventilation (don't put it in a cupboard).

Error C1 / S1: If the Bbox screen displays "C1" or the @ light is red, the box cannot authenticate. This is often a regional outage, not a home wiring issue.

Wi-Fi Repeater Pairing: If you use the Bbox Repeater, it must be paired correctly. If the LED is Orange, it is too far from the Bbox. Move it halfway between the router and the dead zone.

How to Get an Accurate Test

Wireless testing is unreliable for the 2 Gbps and 8 Gbps offers.

To confirm the actual speed delivered to your home:
1. Use a PC with a 10GbE or 2.5GbE Network Card. (A standard 1G port will cap your test at 940 Mbps).
2. Connect a Cat6a cable (Cat6 is minimum) to the 10G Port on the Bbox Ultym.
3. Run the test.
If you lack 10G equipment, run a test on two devices simultaneously. If the total sum is >1 Gbps, your line is healthy.

When to Call Support

Escalate the issue to Bouygues Telecom if you observe these specific failures:

Red @ Light / Error S1: The box cannot detect the optical signal. Likely a cut fiber cable in the street.

Error F1 / F2: Authentication error. The box is connected but rejected by the server.

Ventilation Alert: If the Bbox screen says "Surchauffe" (Overheating), the internal fan has failed.

You can manage your Wi-Fi channels, restart the box, and run line diagnostics via the Application Bouygues Telecom or by calling 1064.
