TIM Speed Test

This tool helps customers of TIM (Telecom Italia) verify their Fiber (FTTH) connection speeds. Whether you are on a standard 1 Giga plan or the ultra-fast Magnifica (10 Giga) plan, ensure your TIM HUB+ is performing correctly.

TIM is Italy's historical telecommunications provider, offering the most extensive fiber coverage. Its flagship devices, the TIM HUB+ (made by ZTE or Technicolor), are designed to handle multi-gigabit speeds.

Interpreting Your TIM Speed Results

Your results will vary based on your specific contract and hardware:

Download Speed: For TIM WiFi Power Smart (1 Gbps), expect ~940 Mbps wired. For Executive (2.5 Gbps), you need a 2.5G port to see >1 Gbps. For Magnifica (10 Gbps), only high-end PCs with 10G cards can reach the limit.

Upload Speed: TIM's upload speeds are typically 300 Mbps (for 1G plans) or up to 1-2 Gbps (for 10G plans). High upload is excellent for cloud gaming and large backups.

Ping (Latency): TIM's backbone is robust. Expect 4-15ms to Milan or Rome servers.

Note: Wi-Fi 6 testing on the TIM HUB+ typically tops out at 800-1200 Mbps depending on distance and device capabilities.

TIM HUB+ & Magnifica: Equipment

Modem Overview

TIM HUB+ (ZTE H388X / Technicolor DGA4331): The standard for most fiber users. Features Wi-Fi 6.

TIM 10Gb Gateway (Sagemcom): Provided exclusively for the Magnifica 10G XGS-PON plan.

Wi-Fi 6: Ensures better stability and lower latency when multiple family members stream 4K content simultaneously.

Optimizing Your Connection

Use the 10G/2.5G Port: If you have a multi-gig plan, do not plug your PC into a standard yellow 1G LAN port. Look for the port marked with a red line or "2.5G" / "10G" label.

Disable Power Saving: Some TIM modems have "Green Mode" enabled by default on Ethernet ports. Log in and disable this to ensure full speed.

TIM Modem Login (modemtim)

Access the management interface to split Wi-Fi bands, set up Guest Wi-Fi, or check optical signal levels.

TIM Admin Details Information
Gateway URL http://modemtim
192.168.1.1
Default Username admin
Default Password admin (on older modems) or the unique password printed on the sticker (on HUB+).

Step-by-Step Login

  1. Ensure you are connected to the TIM network.
  2. Type modemtim in your browser.
  3. Enter the username 'admin'.
  4. Enter the password found on the back/bottom label.
  5. Click 'Accedi' (Login).

Troubleshooting Light Indicators

Power (Green): On and ready.

Broadband (Or @): Solid Green = Synced. Flashing = Training. Red = No Signal.

Service (i): Red = Authentication failed (Check bills or outage). Green = Connected.

Phone: Green = VoIP active. Off = No phone service configured.

When to Contact 187

Call 187 (TIM Customer Service) if:

The "Broadband" or "Info" light stays red for over 20 minutes.

You cannot reach speeds above 100 Mbps (indicates a bad cable negotiating at Fast Ethernet).

You need to return a modem or cancel a line.

TIM FAQs

Why is my upload speed low? If you are testing via Wi-Fi, upload is often lower due to device power limits. Test via Ethernet. If wired speed is low, check if your PC background uploads (OneDrive/iCloud) are choking the bandwidth.

Can I use my own modem (Modem Libero)? Yes, TIM allows "Modem Libero". You can use a FRITZ!Box or ASUS router, but you must configure the VLAN ID (835 for Data) and PPPoE credentials manually.
